Deferred Compensation – The City offers a voluntary deferred
compensation program for interested employees. The program allows employees to
defer receipt of the lesser amount of 25% of their salary or $8,500 annually.
Social Security and retirement contributions must be made on the deferred
amount but income tax withholdings are not.
Health Insurance – The City of Yakima offers a comprehensive
self-insured program of medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage
to eligible employees and their families. The plan is designed to provide
protection for employees and their families against the high cost of health
care.
Life Insurance – The City offers group term insurance for all
employees other than temporary, emergency, provisional employees or employees
who work less than 20 hours per week. This coverage provides insurance in
varying amounts depending on one’s bargaining unit and may be converted to a
private policy upon termination.
Worker’s Compensation – With the exception of some members of
the Police and Fire departments, all employees of the City are covered by
Workers' Compensation. In the event you are injured on the job you may use
sick leave to be paid full salary while in a time loss status. In July, 1984
the City became self insured for Workers’ Compensation
