BIOGRAPHY
Maureen is a transplant to the Yakima Valley, having been
born, raised and educated in Massachusetts. Maureen
is married to Yakima native, John Adkison, an orthopedic
surgeon, and they have a daughter and son-in-law, Kate and
Davi Bear who reside in Yakima.
Maureen’s background has always been in healthcare,
primarily academic medicine, spending six years in the Department
of Medicine at Harvard’s Beth Israel Hospital and four
years as the Secretary of the Admissions Committee for Harvard
Medical School. After marrying her husband, she worked
for three years in the Departments of Neonatal and Pediatric
Pulmonary Medicine at Moffitt Hospital at the University
of California, San Francisco. She spent a year in Scotland
with her husband John, while he completed his hand surgery
fellowship. While there, she worked for two different
law firms and the Intelligence Division of the Bank of Scotland.
Maureen is a huge cheerleader for the community and has spent thirty years volunteering in Yakima. She has worked with both hospitals in many fund-raising projects. She is presently on the Board of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra, President of Regional Hospital Medical and Cardiac Center Board, Mable Swan Senior Housing Board, and for the past two years, has been a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission. She is past President of the United Way of Yakima County, Providence Hospital Foundation and the Yakima Tennis Club, and is currently on the Foundation Board of United Way of Central Washington. She was also a ten-year member of Junior League of Yakima, and a founding member of the Child Abuse Council of Yakima County.
Maureen sees her appointment to the City Council as another way to be active in the growth of this City. She believes Yakima is on the verge of great things and intends to run in November to retain a seat on the Council.
