Chapter 6.20 ANIMAL CONTROL
6.20.010 Leashes required.
A. It is unlawful for the owner or custodian of any dog to
cause, permit or allow such dog to roam, run, stray or to be away from the
premises of such owner or custodian and to be on any public place, or on any
public property, or the private property of another in the city of Yakima,
unless such dog, while away from such premises, is controlled by a leash or
chain not more than eight feet in length, such control to be exercised by such
owner or custodian or other competent and authorized person; and any dog
roaming, running, straying or being away from such premises and not on a leash
as herein provided may be impounded subject to redemption in the manner provided
by ordinance.
B. It is unlawful for the owner or custodian of a potentially
dangerous dog, as defined in Section 6.20.160 of this chapter, to cause, permit
or allow such dog to be off the premises of such custodian or owner unless such
dog is under the direct control of an adult person by means of a leash or chain
not more than eight feet in length and a muzzle.
C. Penalties. Anyone violating or failing to comply with the
provisions of this section shall be punishable by civil penalties as set forth
